Training for sex educators in Ireland

Short courses:

Psychosexual therapy training:

There are no degrees in Ireland which specialise in psychosexual support. Many of the people who practice psychosexual therapy in Ireland have trained as general counsellors and therapists, and then later done short courses in sexual issues.

In Ireland, the professional titles of ‘counsellor’ and ‘psychotherapist’ are not regulated. CORU will be regulating these professions in the coming years, with specific requirements for the courses and practice placements that must be done in order to use the titles ‘counsellor’ or ‘psychotherapist’.

COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists) is the UK’s professional body dedicated to Psychosexual and Relationship Therapies. The diploma courses mentioned below are accredited by COSRT. To compare UK (OFQUAL) qualification levels with Irish (NFQ) qualification levels, click here.

The diplomas below may not meet the CORU requirements in Ireland for practice as a counsellor or therapist.
